My uric acid level is at greater than 400 ummol/L without medication. After starting with my medication, the levels went down. Uric acid levels are associated with increased risks of having diabetes and kidney disease. But you have to understand that as long as I am not experiencing symptoms of pain for arthritis who cares about uncontrolled uric acid levels? But it turns out they're a good indicator of developing diabetes and kidney disease.
At my initial tests, my SGPT levels are still normal, so nothing to connect yet to my high uric acid results. But soon enough, around 4th quarter 2017, my liver enzymes are showing up in my blood. A liver in trouble won't show up in tests until it is damaged but a high uric acid might be telling me I have a fatty liver. The fatty liver produces a lot of uric acid from damaged cells. Uric acid is the waste product of cell metabolism. High uric acid also inhibits nitric oxide. Nitric oxide relaxes the blood vessels. Lack of nitric oxide activity causes hypertension.
So clearly by just taking medication to lower my uric acid levels isn't the perfect solution.
What is causing my fatty liver? A fatty liver is caused by insulin resistance
in which cells refuses to take up sugars in response to insulin. The sugars are ultimately converted to fats and stored in the liver or as belly fat.
Hence, the shape I am in. I am 200 lbs and obese with a BMI of 31.
