Czar Alexander II of Russia also freed russian slaves called serfs from their bondage. In fact he did it a year earlier than Abraham Lincoln who had to govern over a civil war and fight to keep the Union. Back then it was the Russian monarchy who was calling the western states socialists, which highlights how far from the mainstream Czar Alexander II was in his decision to emancipate slaves.
