Mom and her Transient Heart Attack

Mom and I ate our macaroni cheese around 7 pm. She cheerfully finished her portion plus more. Around 8 I assumed the worst when I heard a deep cough downstairs. I found mom vertical on the couch and her face contorted. She was still. She was not responding to my questions. She would later deny any memory of this and the 30 minutes it took us to get her to the emergency ward of the hospital. Mother is 78 years old. Doctors found that she has a low calcium level. They had to add the calcium to her glucose bag. After 24 hours I am relieved that this event won't deteriorate to a full blown stroke. Personally. It felt like I overreacted when I saw her drooping like that. I knew that it is a symptom because father died of a heart attack and that is a common symptom for the two. Doctors agree that knowing the symptoms of a stroke save lives. Getting sufferers to the emergency room as soon as possible le save lives.

What Am I Been Listening To

It has been 5 months of this virus now. What have I been listening to all these weeks? Let's see.  top 15 artists of my personal scrobbles in last.fm for the last 90 days I know I listen to the stones a lot.

How to Replace a Failing Hard Drive in a ZFS System

I ordered a new Seagate Skyhawk 4TB hard drive. While waiting for it to arrive, I thought I could write a post about how to replace a failing old  drive in a ZFS system like mine.  The first thing to do is get as much information about the system hard drives. I'll need information on the drives. #ls -la /dev/disk/by-id        #to list all my drives with their model and numbers donato@donato-ubuntu : ~ $ ls -la /dev/disk/by-id total 0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 720 Aug 3 12:34 . drwxr-xr-x 8 root root 160 Aug 3 12:34 .. lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Aug 3 12:34 ata-Crucial_CT240M500SSD1_14210C259405 -> ../../sda lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Aug 3 12:34 ata-Crucial_CT240M500SSD1_14210C259405-part1 -> ../../sda1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Aug 3 12:34 ata-Crucial_CT240M500SSD1_14210C259405-part2 -> ../../sda2 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Aug 3 12:34 ata-Crucial_CT240M500SSD1_14210C259405-part3 -> ../../sda3 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Aug 3 12:34 ata-Crucial_CT

Uptick in RAM Usage ZFS File System

The ZFS file system uses a lot more RAM during the course of the day as I read and write data. A LOT MORE. At start of session RAM use read/write statistics for my pools composed of ssd and 4 hard drives I use ZFS as a root filesystem and transferred my data to  hard drives managed by ZFS. My data (mostly music and video files) is on a raidz (single parity) pool of 4 hard drives with slightly varying sizes.  RAM usage goes up to 80% after 5 hours with normal activities like browsing and productivity.
