Anna Fox played by Amy Adams was a child psychologist living alone in a multi-story apartment. She suffered from agoraphobia and was seeing a psychiatrist herself and taking medications. It will be later revealed that she was driving when her husband and daughter were killed in a road accident. Her psychiatrist encouraged her curiosity on other people which prompted her to observe neighbors. The Russell's lived across the street and one day she saw Jane Russell murdered. She called the police but later the whole family confronted her with a Jane Russell alive and a woman who was different from the one she met. She apologized for her mistake, but later got more evidence proving she was right and the Russell family wasn't the perfect family after all. Ethan Russell, the sixteen year old son revealed he killed his birth mother Katie who Anna thought to be Mrs. Russell. Ethan was the abused son but also the murderer in the story.
