February 2015 Income, Expense & Profit Charts

Outstanding Month! Good job at controlling basic expenses. Suprisingly, Income held up. -- Use my PGP key if you want to encrypt your replies/messages to me. You are invited to also send me your PGP keys so we can communicate in private.

Gnome 3.15 Beta

I am following Gnome 3.15 development closely and hoping that all the bullet points make it to Fedora 22 which is now in alpha. Good luck to Gnome developers. -- Use my PGP key if you want to encrypt your replies/messages to me. You are invited to also send me your PGP keys so we can communicate in private.

Firefox In Gnome 3 Theme

I'm still using Firefox and happy with it. I have Chrome as secondary browser but my daily activities are done in Firefox. I find it easier to use when configured to my use-cases and fast compared to other browsers. It uses less ram/memory than chrome. -- Use my PGP key if you want to encrypt your replies/messages to me. Installing Your Own Operating System

The discovery that Lenovo pre-installs adware which allows man-in-the-middle attacks on unsuspecting users of its best selling pc and laptops is a very good reason to learn and try installing your own operating system on your machines. May I suggest that a new paradigm for general computer users should be to install your own operating system. Most manufacturers pre-install Windows operating systems on their machines. They get financial incentives to do this and more. They get paid by advertising companies to install so called crapware -- software you don't need and will never use. If you install your own operating system you get the assurance that these unwanted software won't be messing with your computer security. Learning to install something like Ubuntu or any Linux distro gives you control and independence. -- Use my PGP key if you want to encrypt your replies/messages to me. Fedora Is A Linux Distro

I have been talking about Fedora since I started using it last October 2014. I am not a Linux newcomer but Fedora Core as it was called a couple of years back, is my first rpm distro. I thought that this is going to be an issue but no it wasn't. A lot of people thought why I'm talking about a head gear in my computer blog a lot. This explains the title of this post. There are around 200 or so Linux distributions or distro for short. You can check them out at http:/ distrowatch.com . What's different with Fedora, especially the current stable which is 21 "Twenty One", is it is offered in three downloads. I am using the Workstation offering. Fedora updates almost everyday. While offering a snapshot stable version for download, it also upgrades to the newest version of specific packages when it is ready. As in Mozilla Firefox you can use the testing channel to help in bug hunting.  If you want to be the first kid in the block to have the new toy, then Fedora should ...

Don't Get Lost In The Internet

Always remember who you are. Sure you're entitled to change your opinions or sides to an issue. But who you are remains the same specially after your first love or the first time your heart is broken. Always remember what you know. It's so easy to google something and go to Wikipedia. After reading a few paragraphs you think you're an expert. I'm not trying to make everything difficult by telling you it's not that simple. Two priests are preparing for an exorcism. The younger priest who is a psychologist believes that the subject has at least 6 personalities. The older and experienced  priest said there is only one. Don't forget it's the Internet. There will always be a debate. You can't kill that dragon. If the only thing you're after is to win one and end it, you, my friend, are condemned to walk its comment forums in eternity. -- Use my PGP key if you want to encrypt your replies/messages to me. GnuCash: How Long Does It Take To Fix Bugs In Linux?

This is not a scientific case study. Nor is it an accurate depiction of projects in open source. I wrote a post about a bug in GnuCash 2.6.4 which Fedora 20 updated to last October 2014. I knew it was going to take some amount of time before a patch can be made for this. So I marked time. Today i updated Fedora 21 and saw that part of the upgrade is GnuCash 2.6.5 which I know to be carrying a patch for the bug I wrote about.  Between October last year and today that's 15 weeks. I learned about the patch to Gnucash the first week of January 2015. That's 10 weeks after I wrote the post. Fedora tests upgrades before they make it to users. -- Use my PGP key if you want to encrypt your replies/messages to me. January Income And Expense Report

January is tax and license month. The biggest component so far is the municipal taxes and it benefits the whole year. A key component of income is the non-rentals and it isn't in the computations since December 2014. However if the December and January bars were interpreted in the context of a reduced total income, the remaining income components are able to carry operations. -- Use my PGP key if you want to encrypt your replies/messages to me. Gone

Saying goodbye is hard. It's easier to just say it and let words flow into tears. Goodbye. Let it flow into many emotions. You've come to drink from his well. I accept. And waived my quiet protest. You smile. Everyone agrees to keep it short. I pray The choir keeps singing to your guitar Until my cheeks are dry and their voices thin out. Sunsets are now worth talking about, now that I see your long shadow. You are not lost like a tree in the forest. I can see your shining face. I will come and visit that forest to find You standing next to me when I'm gone. Use my PGP key if you want to encrypt your replies/messages to me.
