Photos of the House Repairs In the Summer 2014

Some after pictures of the ongoing house repairs in San Mateo 2014. I'm hurrying things up and watching the budget since the rains came early for the summer of 2014. Baguio green over a primer of red oxide on the roof over R2 and R3. The house viewed from General Luna St. Rear window view.

Sabrina 1954

Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart stars in a romantic comedy between a wealthy workaholic son and the chauffeur's daughter. Why does it take a lifetime to see our mistake? Why is it so hard to own to it? Some people say Bogart is wrong for the role. There was some trouble on-set in fact. Is the presence of Bogart and Holden in one movie, in one scene, just too much? Ubuntu Users Should Be Subscribed to The Security Mailing List

If you use Ubuntu Linux, then any security announcement from its developers and Canonical should concern you. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This is a follow-up to the End of Life warning sent last month to confirm that as of today (May 16, 2014), Ubuntu 12.10 is no longer supported.  No more package updates will be accepted to 12.10, and it will be archived to old-releases.ubuntu.com in the coming weeks. The original End of Life warning follows, with upgrade instructions: Ubuntu announced its 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) release more than 18 months ago, on October 18, 2012.  Since changes to the Ubuntu support cycle mean that Ubuntu 13.04 has reached end of life before Ubuntu 12.10, the support cycle for Ubuntu 12.10 has been extended slightly to overlap with the release of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.  This will allow users to move directly from Ubuntu 12.10 to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (via Ubuntu 13.10). This period of overlap

We Need To Take Back Our Emails

In light of the Snowden revelations about how government has thrown a very big net over our computing to gather data about us, I've grown interests on tools which can take back our privacy. I focused my efforts at emails. I know that it can be signed and encrypted, yes. To sign emails, I don't mean that snippet of text (signature) below the message body. Signing the email requires you to generate a key pair- a public key and a private key. This key pair is unique and can be used to identify you in the digital world. I am not going to attempt to explain the mathematics of cryptology here, just this. It might be next to impossible to break it. This key pair can also protect the integrity of files, emails and its attachments. Your email client can tell you if the message has been altered or corrupted. You will need an email client. You remember those right? The easiest way to use key pairs is with an email client like Thunderbird, Kmail or Evolution. I use Linux by the

Evolution Is Buggy

In open source, the bigger the user base for an application the better, the more stable the application is. That's because developers get more feedback and users ARE developers themselves, whether they do code or not. Sometimes due to the complexity of the application the bugs just adds up. I do appreciate that people are giving it their time and love, but evolution is still buggy for me. I could not connect to my account when before I can. This should be persistent and I checked the online accounts and there's no notification of a problem there.

Defaults On Evolution 3.10 with Multiple Accounts

I was wondering how this will work. I have four email addresses, two are gmail imapx accounts. One is a Yahoo pop account. The last one is a Hotmail imap account. The great thing here is that all of them seems to be working. Like downloading all emails and sending them if I did. Search is fine. Not as elegant as in Thunderbird though. Calendar is working fine. I don't have to manually configure each account because everything in the online accounts are fed to Evolution including calendar. Thanks GNOME.

Mozilla Firefox versus Chromium-browser (Or Google Chrome-browser)

Since 2010 or maybe earlier, I've had two browsers always ready on my desktop. My main browser is Firefox. It's pretty solid security and privacy features are enough to win me over. It also has gotten fast, fast to use and fast development. I also have chromium-browser because I'm a Google drive user. No browser connects faster and offers more support than chromium-browser. If you're looking for a Google drive client for linux, then just start chromium-browser.

Rhythmbox In Ubuntu 14.04

Rhythmbox is the default music player in Ubuntu and while I can install a plethora of other music player from the repository, I want to see what it can do with a little help from plugins which can be installed to add functionalities. You can add this third-party plugins for rhythmbox by using the terminal: $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:fossfreedom/rhythmbox-plugins I want to install all the plugins available for the rhythmbox version which comes with 14.04 so: $ sudo apt-get install rhythmbox-plugin-complete Two of these plugins, I particularly sought to add to my system. They are the coverart-browser and the parametric equalizer. Coverart-browser Parametric equalizer While you're at it, you might check how you set up your speakers to get the most beautiful sound out of your computer speakers.

Found My Error

After some digging into how I got into this trouble, I finally found the reason why some applications aren't using the ambiance theme. Or so it seem. I have an seven year old hardware here and although the Intel processor supports 64 bit I think that the newest Ubuntu Unity isn't going to give it a pass this time. I went ahead and installed the 32 bit.   Also,I installed an old version of skype (version from lucid). I remove --purge the package and updated the repositories. I downloaded from the trusty repositories and installed. I reboot the system for good measure (although I think it's unnecessary). I got the right fonts (ubuntu) and the right color for ambiance. And most of all it is persistent. Not The Way I Roll

Gmail offers you to configure your Inbox by activating tabs. I have my Inbox show starred, draft and a custom label by default. It is getting crowded if you ask me. So I tried it Google's way. When I went and clicked that cog icon, it gave me options to turn on the tabs feature. It has a set name for the tabs, Social, Promotions and Forums. These are the options for me, I don't know what the feature is offering for others. I suppose it is part of the personalization of the email. I tried it for a while but I just had to turn it off and go back to my old Inbox. Why. First I could not change the name of the tabs. I suppose because Google itself chooses which email goes to what tab. For me, that's more inboxes, more complications, more trouble in finding my email. No. Second, navigating to the tab I want to browse isn't as fast as before. It wasn't more convenient. I use keyboard shortcuts and not the mouse. I suppose if you were a "mouse person" you wo
